Kidney Function Test (KFT)
A Kidney Function Test measures the waste products the kidneys are meant to filter out of the blood, along with the salts they balance, to show how effectively they are filtering. Doctors order it for swelling of the feet or face, reduced or frothy urine, long-standing high blood pressure or diabetes, and before and during medicines that the kidneys clear. Urea and creatinine rise as filtration falls, and the estimated GFR calculated from creatinine is what stages chronic kidney disease.
